My dear friend Megan was diagnosed with epileptic seizures as an adult (along with a benign brain tumor which may be the cause… or not…), and it has disrupted every aspect of her life. She is currently hoping to try some experimental treatments, including surgery, to help alleviate the problems she’s had with it. If you can help her out, I would really appreciate it. Thanks.
I’m currently watching my DVD of The Hobbit : The Original Unedited 1977 Animated Classic. The animated one produced by Rankin/Bass for television back in the 1970’s.
I really enjoy this version of the story…. especially the vocal casting. Orson Bean as Bilbo, John Ford as Gandalf, and Richard Boone as Smaug are just some of the awesome actors associated with this, and every one of them is perfect (especially Boone… Benedict Cumberbatch’s Smaug will be very different in the new movies, but probably no less awesome).
If I had one complaint, it’s with the music. Some of the songs, especially the ones based on Tolkien’s lyrics, are pretty well done (such as the Dwarves song, “Misty Mountains Cold“, or “Down, Down, to Goblin Town“), but others, such as the title song “The Greatest Adventure“, come across as rather… well… hippy-esque. And sometimes they pull you out of the story, as they don’t always quite fit.
Even so, I can’t recommend this movie enough. It’s really delightful.
